Abuse and Illegal Content Policy

In short: Anyone — logged in or not — can report a markoto document they believe is illegal or violates our Terms. We acknowledge every report. We act on those that meet our policy.

What this policy covers

This page describes our notice-and-action mechanism under Article 16 of the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065) and our acceptable-use enforcement under the markoto Terms of Service.

How to report

Two channels, same workflow:

• Anyone (including non-registered users): email abuse@markoto.app.
• Signed-in users: use the form at /legal/abuse — login-gated to keep spam manageable, but functionally identical to the email channel.

Please include:

• The URL of the document or content being reported (or “platform-wide” if you cannot identify a specific URL);
• The category of report (illegal content, copyright, CSAM, harassment, spam, other);
• A description of why the content should be removed.

You may report anonymously via the email channel. If you provide an email address, we will acknowledge receipt and tell you what we decided. The form returns a reference id so you can follow up later.

What happens after you report

1. We acknowledge receipt — automatically if you provided an email.
2. We triage the report against our acceptable-use policy and applicable law.
3. We may contact the document owner to seek their position.
4. We act: remove, restrict, age-gate, dismiss, or forward to law enforcement as appropriate.
5. We notify you (if you provided an email) of our decision and the reason.

We aim to act on reports within 3 business days for clear-cut cases (CSAM, copyright takedown notices), and within 14 calendar days for cases requiring substantive review.

What we act on

We will remove or restrict content that:

• Is illegal under EU law or under the law of a member state;
• Infringes third-party intellectual property rights (we follow notice-and-action for copyright);
• Constitutes child sexual abuse material — we report this to law enforcement and to relevant hotlines without exception;
• Constitutes targeted harassment, threats, or doxxing;
• Is malware, phishing, or fraud-facilitation content.

What we don’t act on

• Content you simply disagree with;
• Lawful speech, criticism, or satire;
• Disputes between collaborators on a workspace document — these belong to the workspace owner to resolve.

False or abusive reports

We track reporters who submit repeated unfounded reports. Repeat false reporting may itself violate our Terms.

Counter-notice

If your content is removed and you believe the removal was wrong, you can submit a counter-notice to abuse@markoto.app explaining why the content should be restored. We will review and respond.
